Hiske (Netherlands)

As a sales consultant you are solely responsible for the project you are leading. In my case, this means that I am at the forefront in the coordination of the preproduction of the television program. The responsibilities include researching the country, gaining support from the government, interviewing officials and leaders in the public and private sector, collecting the information for the final script and most importantly: finding sponsors for the commercial time in the program.

The job is interesting because you never know what will happen next, where you will be in a few months, and who will be sitting across from you tomorrow.  This is just exhilarating to me. Being able to meet and talk face-to-face with Ministers, CEO’s of major companies, and the most influential people within the country you are covering makes this job unique and enormously interesting. Also, I like being involved in every single step of the process. You have a great deal of control over your own project.  You learn how to deal with all the aspects of running a project independently, while still having the office and your manager to back you up.

The Media Plus atmosphere is ambitious, fast, entrepreneurial, competitive and a lot of fun!!!

What have I learned? To work in very different markets, I have learned to be flexible in both the presentation and strategy. You basically have to reinvent your communication style to fit the local business culture. Furthermore at Media Plus, I have worked in more countries, enjoyed more responsibility and gained more management experience than I would have at any other large multi-national corporations!

A typical day? There IS no typical day in the life of a sales consultant at Media Plus.

And that’s the best part about it! A common denominator is that the days are packed from morning to night with work and activities. You are always juggling emailing, phone calling, preparing meetings, keeping up with world news, evaluating your skills, organizing, going on meetings, conferences , business dinners, communicating with the office, following-up on clients. Needless to say you will never get bored and being motivated is key!
